Buy & Sell Trailing

Trailing Buy and Trailing Sell are special tools in the Tiger.com web terminal that follow the price movement and make it possible to buy or sell an asset at a more favorable price.

How it works and how to set it up

To use trailing:

  1. create a limit order to buy (for Trailing Buy) or to sell (for Trailing Sell); the price specified in the order is the trailing activation level;

  2. open the Smart Trade editing window for this order and enable trailing by double-clicking the «➕» button;

  3. enter the desired trailing percentage; when the price crosses the activation level, trailing is activated and starts following the price movement.

An active Trailing Sell / Trailing Buy is displayed in purple In the progress bar.

Trailing Buy is most effective during a strong, continuous decrease in the asset price, allowing the asset to be bought at a better price.

The goal of Trailing Sell is the opposite — to sell the asset as high as possible. Sell trailing works best during periods of strong market growth without significant corrections.

Trailing behavior specifics

  • market conditions change constantly, so an optimal trailing percentage cannot be defined in advance;

  • the actual entry price can be either lower or higher than the activation price;

  • trailing uses market orders, so price slippage is possible;

  • during sharp price movements (squeezes), trailing, like any other market order, may fail to execute.

Stop Loss with Trailing Buy / Trailing Sell

When Trailing Buy or Trailing Sell is used, the entry price is not known in advance. Therefore, a Stop Loss cannot be set to a specific fixed price level for this tool. The Stop Loss is specified as a percentage of the future entry price, and the Stop Loss price level is determined only after the position is opened. If there is at least one averaging order in the trade, the Stop Loss becomes fixed, meaning it is set at a specific price level.

Take Profit with Trailing Buy / Trailing Sell

The Take Profit percentage must not be lower than the selected trailing percentage. Otherwise, Take Profit may be executed immediately after entering the position. The system does not allow saving a Take Profit that violates this rule.
